Lau Tat Keung is a senior criminal police superintendent. He worked in the police force for more than 36 years before retirement. His main service scope is the operations and intelligence departments of various police districts and criminal units. In particular, his work in the Narcotics Bureau and the Hong Kong Island Crime Region involves a lot of work to control informers and undercover operations. During the investigation process, he also needs to cooperate with tracking and interception operations. He has rich operational experience and has won many awards. During his work in the Police Headquarters, he also went to San Francisco, USA to record statements and rushed to the prison in Mexico City to meet with arrested suspects came from Hong Kong. After retirement, he worked in the facilities management of the City University of Hong Kong for more than seven years. He also had to deal with many cases involving student crises and epidemics. This period was also the most chaotic political situation in Hong Kong, with wars everywhere and people living in misery.

In addition to criminal investigation and operational work, he has long been involved in the work of the Police Negotiation Team (23 years) and the Triad Expert (18 years). He went to Washington, USA, to receive training from the Federal Secret Service (hostage negotiation) before March 1997, and also received “Triad Expert Training” in 1998, becoming a qualified “Triad Expert”. Before retirement, he testified calmly in courts of all levels about 40 times! Even after retirement, he was invited to train four batches of active negotiators. Because he introduced crisis management skills to social workers and teachers, he was awarded the “Humanity Award” by the Hong Kong Red Cross and Radio Television Hong Kong in 2012. He is still the only police officer to receive the award. As a volunteer, he is still introducing positive thinking and crisis management skills to many non-governmental organizations in Hong Kong and in the Mainland.
